My Dream Bedroom With Rodgers Of York

I was contacted recently with an interior design opportunity by Rodgers of York, a leading furniture store in York. As soon as i read the words 'Mood Board', i jumped at the chance. The brief - To create a mood board showing how my home would look if i could have my dream makeover. The room i am currently working on in my home is my bedroom, so i thought it would be fun to design a bedroom using pieces from the Rodgers of York extensive range of top manufacturers. Lets take a look in a little more detail at what i put together whilst perusing their website.....

1) I would begin by anchoring the room with a strong feature wall & this beautiful baroque style wallpaper from Clark & Clark will make a statement in any room. It adds texture & an air of opulence whilst still remaining practical as the wallpaper is washable.

2) So as not to make the room too oppressive, i would paint the remaining three walls in a very pale grey. The shade Crystal Grey from Sanderson is just on the grey shade of white & adds a calmness to the scheme.

3) I wanted the bed frame to almost disappear into the floor to give a spacious feel, so i felt getting a carpet as near to the colour of the bed as possible would achieve this. I found my perfect match with Cavalier Carpets Pennine Heathers White Coppice. This 80% wool carpet is sure to be cosy underfoot.

4) I love a sumptuous heavy curtain in the cooler months so when i came across the Porter & Stone Opulence curtains in Dove Grey i knew they were the ones. They ooze luxury with their soft suede effect material.

5) I knew that somewhere in the scheme i would need to add an accent colour & for fear of the room evolving into something too masculine i chose a cerise floral print. The stems of the flowers have flecks of dark grey in them so tie in wonderfully. Blendworth have been making fabrics for nearly 100 years & i instantly fell in love with the Artisan printed satin. I would layer this material so its just peeping out behind the Opulence curtains in the cooler months. In the summer months i would keep the Opulence curtains pulled back, fling the windows open & let the full beauty of this print show with the breeze making it dance & the sun streaming through it.

6) Now to put the bed in place & if storage wasn't an issue i would choose the Isabel bed frame from Windsor. Understated yet classy is how i'd describe this bed & a timeless piece.

7) As we already have a feature wall & beautiful bed, i didn't want to detract from this so i opted for a classic simple duvet set from iliv. The Purity duvet set is a crisp, clean, white, 210 thread count, 100% cotton sateen set, with a charcoal stitch detail.

8) I have a very small bedroom so storage needs to be tall rather than wide, we're thinking cubic here folks. I of course had to pick the matching Windsor Isabel 6 drawer chest with its elegant hand carved details & serpentine curves.

9) To complete my furniture ensemble i would place the Windsor Isabel bedside cabinets at either side of the Isabel bed frame. They come in two sizes so the smaller of the two is ideal for me & with 2 drawers is just big enough to store all of my night time essentials.

10) Mirrors are a must, not just for preening yourself in but also to reflect light around a room. Again from Windsor this wall mirror ties all of the furniture pieces together and adds a lovely feature above the 6 drawer chest.

11) My husband isn't a lover of lots of cushions on the bed(spoil sport) so i chose just one cushion that said, "Look at me, aren't i a looker". The iliv Etch cushion in Granite was the one that spoke to me. She's a sexy little silky number with a smidgen of bling in the centre. Just enough bling to be classy rather than tacky.

12) Although Rodgers of York primarily supply furnishings i did manage to find a few pretty accessories by Harlequin to help dress the room. One being the Rosella candle which picks up the cerise in the Artisan fabric & also comes in the form of a reed diffuser if you'd prefer.

13) Arabella Vivalto tie backs in Walnut were another find from Harlequin & i just love the ball & crystal bead detail. They match the curtains perfectly & the tiny crystal detail mirrors that in the centre of the Etch cushion. I would pull the curtains one quarter of the way across the window & then swag them back with these gorgeous tie backs.

And there comes an end to my dreamy mood board. I thoroughly enjoyed perusing the Rodgers of York website & those of their many suppliers. It was so easy to tailor make my dream room as they have every style available from traditional right through to contemporary.

You will soon be able to see what my bedroom turned out like in real life, as i am very nearly finished. Heres a sneak peak.

  1. I love the bedroom furniture that you picked - especially the matching mirror and headboard. I'd definitely have the chest of drawers and bedside cabinets in my bedroom too!
