On the hot & sunny day when the idea for this post popped into my head i was going to entitle it "SWEAT PROOF MAKEUP, but alas the British weather took a turn for the worse & the main nemesis for my makeup was the rain! Both are a problem in themselves when all you want is a fresh face of makeup that lasts all day, so here i share my "Top Makeup For All Weathers".
Primers - There are so many primers out there on the market from drugstore/high Street to high end but my favourite has to be the Mac Oil Control Lotion. This oil free lightweight lotion instantly mattifies & bonds makeup to your skin to ensure that whatever you place on top is going nowhere no matter what the weather. It contains minerals & antioxidants so is good for your skin & helps it stay PH balanced. I love the packaging of this & it's great for travel as its light & has a handy lock built in to the lid.
Base - My Base of choice is the Mac Face & Body Foundation. It gives just enough coverage to blur out any imperfections & the best thing is that it is totally buildable so you can achieve full coverage in just a few light layers without feeling caked in makeup. Being water resistant it is great for holidays & of course for the unpredictable British weather. It gives a lovely satin finish, so rather than a flat matte you actually get dimension to your face with this product & a subtle glow. I have used this foundation for years & my favourite makeup artist Amanda Bowen uses it on Emma Willis too! If you want a long wearing natural finish then you can't go far wrong with this. I buy the 120ml bottles for £30 which makes this makeup bag staple cheaper than most drugstore/high street foundaions. BARGAIN!
Eyes - For someone with oily eyelids like me an eye primer is a must. Urban Decays Primer Potion does the trick at keeping things in place no matter what type of eyeshadow i use, be it powder or cream.
However for super long wearing, crease proof, water proof lids i swear by Mac Pro Longwear Paintpots. What can i say about these little jars of wonderment. The clue is in the name i guess. With 23 shades to choose from that give a highly pigmented vibrant finish you'd do well to have a few of these in your makeup arsenal.
I was fortunately blessed with pretty decent lashes so i find that most mascaras work for me. Quite a few years back i needed a waterproof mascara for a holiday & didn't want to break the bank so i popped into Superdrug & looked for the cheapest i could find. What i purchased that day has now turned into a staple, so much so that i have completely ran out so need to pop out for another. Yippee, an excuse to go shopping! The product i speak of is the NYC City Proof Waterproof Mascara. It's gone up by 50p but at £2.49 i'll still repurchase & repurchase this as it's the cheapest waterproof mascara i've found that works.
Cheeks - Surprisingly i have a bargain buy to share with you all when it comes to sweat proof/Rain proof cheeks. The MUA Cream Blushers are not advertised as waterproof but they sure do a fab job of staying put in all weathers. I have the colour Yummy which is the perfect summery coral/tan shade. For £2 you could buy this in all 3 shades!
Finishing Powders - I have a new love in my life & she is the Chanel Les Beiges Helathly Glow Sheer Powder. I use this to set everything in place but the fact it has an SPF of 15 built in & yet more antioxidants & skin goodies like white rose plant cells & cotton flower makes my over 40 skin sing a little happy song. A little compact of luxury to take everywhere, with the most classy packaging that has ever graced my ever growing collection & the most gorgeous smell to boot means that this one will definitely be a repurchase time & time again for me.
Lipstick - Not only is the YSL Glossy Stain waterproof but layered up to a glossy finish this bad boy stays put for hours through eating & drinking. It's not cheap but it's certainly fuss free pucker proof colour on your lips all day long.
Setting Sprays - I haven't been on the setting spray band wagon for long so have actually only tried the one setting spray & even that came free in a beauty box. I could be missing out on some super dooper holy grail setting spray but for now the one i have does the job just fine thank you very much. It is the Collection Fix Me Up spray. It quite simply sets my makeup in place all day so i've been more than happy with it but as i only have a smidgen left & love to try new products i would love to hear about your favourite setting sprays.
So, those are the products i reach for when i want a budge proof visage. I hope you found that helpful if you are struggling to keep the makeup on your face in this ever changeable climate we seem to be having in the UK at the moment. I'd love to know your tried & tested all weather products so let me know in the comments below which makeup items are still present on your face at the end of the day.
